CounterPath Releases Client and Server Add-ons that Enhance User Experience for Enterprise Over-the-Top (OTT) Solutions

New Server Modules Introduced for Analytics, Call Quality Monitoring, Troubleshooting and Extending Battery Life of Bria Mobile UC Applications

CounterPath Releases Client and Server Add-ons that Enhance User Experience for Enterprise Over-the-Top (OTT) Solutions

Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 21, 2014

CounterPath Corporation (NASDAQ: CPAH) (TSX: CCV), a leading developer of award-winning desktop, tablet and mobile VoIP software products and server solutions, today announced a series of new software modules that enhance CounterPath’s server and Bria softphone client offerings. The new server modules significantly improve the Enterprise Over-the-Top (OTT) user experience by reducing battery consumption for mobile devices using Bria applications and providing IT managers with a sophisticated set of tools for managing the end user experience across multiple networks.

Enterprise OTT comprises Unified Communications (UC), VoIP, Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) and other market categories that are driving new communication methods within the enterprise. With the growth of these new market demands and increased user expectations come challenges, especially in terms of increased cost and resource burdens on IT organizations. CounterPath’s new server modules address these issues by enabling IT organizations to more effectively manage softphone clients across desktop, tablet and smart phones platforms. The new modules include:

  • Analytics & Call Quality Monitoring: Enables operations and IT staff to collect and analyze data reflecting service quality and the end user’s experience. End user data is collected and aggregated in a centralized database with powerful graphical analytics tools for identifying issues and pinpointing root causes. Issues such as one way audio and poor voice quality can be quickly diagnosed and traced back to specific users and/or network environments. End user performance metrics can be measured for specific customer groups or users and can be benchmarked against historical data.
  • Help Desk Assistant: When initiated by the end user, the Help Desk Assistant allows IT operations staff to remotely access the user’s softphone client to observe call logs, update configuration settings or place voice or video test calls. This feature enables support staff to resolve end user issues more efficiently, benefiting both operations staff and end users.
  • Push Notification: Extends battery life on a mobile device by eliminating power consumption when the softphone client is inactive, such as when awaiting an inbound call or Instant Message. Bria clients with Push Notification functionality automatically de-register from the SIP server when inactive, eliminating background control messages that would otherwise result in significant battery drain.

The market for softphones across multiple platforms continues to grow. According to a recent report by Gartner1, PC and mobile softphones for business had 28.4% growth in 2013. Further, for the period of 2012 to 2018, it is expected that over 75 million PC and mobile softphones for business will be deployed, representing over 50% of all endpoints.

“CounterPath’s Bria softphone is known for its fantastic user interface,” said Todd Carothers, EVP of Marketing and Products at CounterPath. “Over the last year, we invested in our product and further enhanced the user experience by leveraging the link between our client and server technology thus creating a true end-to-end Enterprise OTT solution that is unrivaled on the market today. Looking ahead, we will continue investing in our end-to-end solution, focusing on how our solutions make communications easy, intuitive and feature-rich over any device, any operating system and any network.”

The new server modules are available with the combination of Bria 3 for mobile and tablet, Bria 4 for desktop and Client Configuration Server (CCS) v1.6.1. For more information, please visit: https://www.counterpath.com/client-configuration-server.html
